Part of Glenfiddichs Clans of the Highlands series from the 1990s, the Clan Sutherland edition celebrates Scottish heritage by featuring Kenneth Sutherland, 3rd Lord Duffus, on the presentation tin. This whisky was labelled Pure Malt the terminology used at the time for what is essentially a single malt and is a collectible, decorative bottling aimed at whisky lovers and clan aficionados.
Colour: Pale goldbright and inviting.
Nose: Fragrant and clean, with orchard fruits (pear, green apple), light cereal or malted barley notes, and a hint of pine sap or fresh wood.
Palate: Balanced and smooth. The fruit-forward character continues, with apple and subtle citrus, then malt sweetness, soft oak, and a whisper of grassy freshness. Some versions note a discreet pine or resinous edge.
Finish: Moderate and clean. The finish is pleasant and lingering without heavy peat, smoke, or spiceleaning toward malt, fruit, and oak echoes
This edition is valued as much for its tin and collectible design as for its liquid. Collectors of Glenfiddichs historical releases prize the Clans series for its thematic appeal, decorative packaging, and relative rarity. The labels use of Pure Malt instead of Single Malt makes it a marker of a particular era in Scotch bottling history.
