This Glenlivet 12 year old was the entry level Glenlivet expression for many decades, eventually being replaced by the Founder’s Reserve in 2015. The expression returned in an elevated spot in the core range in 2018, before being promptly rebranded as the 12 year old Double Oak the following year, as the distillery’s entire permanent portfolio of releases was overhauled.

Produced at the iconic Glenlivet Distillery in Ballindalloch, this 12-year-old release was matured in a mix of American oak and sherry casks, offering a traditional Speyside profile with added depth. Its smooth, orchard fruit-forward character is enhanced by subtle spice and a slightly creamier mouthfeel compared to more recent editions.

Best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to uncover the nuanced richness that defined Glenlivets reputation before modern refinements.

Nose: Soft pears, honeyed malt, citrus zest and gentle floral notes, with a touch of old-style sherry cask richness.

Taste: Smooth and mellow with vanilla custard, ripe apple, barley sugar and a trace of almond. More body than the current iteration.

Finish: Clean, gently drying, with lingering oak spice and toffee sweetness.
