Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2020 is a distinguished red wine from the Bolgheri appellation in Tuscany, Italy. As the second wine of the esteemed Ornellaia estate, it embodies the same dedication to excellence and meticulous craftsmanship. This vintage is a harmonious blend of 44% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 13% Petit Verdot, showcasing the estate’s commitment to Bordeaux varietals cultivated in the Tuscan terroir.
The 2020 growing season was characterized by a mild winter, followed by a warm spring and a hot, dry summer. These conditions led to an early harvest, resulting in wines of remarkable concentration and aromatic richness. Each grape variety was harvested and vinified separately, with fermentation occurring in stainless steel and concrete vats. The wine was then aged for 15 months in French oak barriques (25% new), followed by an additional 6 months of bottle aging prior to release.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Deep ruby red with purple highlights.
Nose: Generous aromas of ripe red fruits, including cherry and raspberry, complemented by subtle notes of spice and floral undertones.
Palate: Soft, rounded, and enveloping, yet full-bodied and substantial. The wine exhibits a remarkable balance between structure, fullness, and elegance, with velvety tannins and a persistent finish.
Food Pairing:
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted meats (lamb, beef, duck), hearty stews, and aged cheeses.
