Luddite Shiraz 2022 is a handcrafted South African red wine from the esteemed Luddite winery in Bot River, Western Cape. This vintage reflects a year of favourable rainfall, resulting in vigorous vineyards and extended flavour development. Harvested over five days to capture optimal ripeness, the grapes underwent fermentation in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperatures to preserve fruit expression and enhance structure. Post-fermentation, the wine matured for two years in French oak barrels, 10% of which were new, with small additions of Mourvdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Grenache Noir from estate vineyards to enrich the mid-palate and add freshness
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Deep, brooding garnet.
Nose: Aromatic layers of garrigue, wildflowers, fynbos, mixed herbs, and spicy dark plum.
Palate: Juicy and bold entry with flavours of mulberry and dark cherry on the mid-palate, balanced by well-integrated tannins. The finish is long, featuring notes of olive tapenade and a hint of saltiness.
Best Enjoyed: Pair with grilled meats, hearty stews, or aged cheeses to complement the wine’s robust character.
